• Electrocardiogram (EKG)

During an electrocardiogram (commonly called EKG), an electrical signal naturally flows through your heart causing it to contract and relax. An EKG records and displays this signal. Based on the appearance of this signal, heart rhythm, arrhythmias, strain, previous damage, and medication effects can be assessed. During an EKG, you will be asked to lie on your back in a relaxed manner. Electrodes are placed in various positions around the chest, arms and legs, and a tracing is recorded. The procedure is painless and only takes a few minutes.
