The Radiation Oncology Unit is located at the east end of Dickinson Memorial Hospital with a convenient entrance adjacent to the Emergency Department.
Department Description
The cancer care team at Dickinson Memorial Hospital, in affiliation with the Upper Michigan Cancer Center at Marquette General Hospital, provides comprehensive services including:family practice/internal medicine, medical oncology, pathology, radiation oncology, rehabilitation, radiology research and surgery.
A Board Certified Radiation Oncologist prescribes and supervises treatments using radiation-generating equipment.Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-ray beams to target and destroy cancer cells in a confined and local area while sparing healthy tissue.

▪ Linear Accelerator – Varian 2100 C – dual energy technology using both photons and electrons for cancer treatment
▪ Simulator – Varian 2100 C for treatment planning
▪ Collaboration with Marquette General Health System and the Upper Michigan Cancer Center

▪ Physicians Board Certified in Medical and Radiation Oncology on staff
Special Patient Instructions/Notes
The department offers free hats for those patients who loose their hair during treatment.Several gracious volunteers make the hats.The Radiation Oncology Unit stocks a small resource library with books, pamphlets and tapes regarding different types of cancer.There is an active Cancer Support Group that meets the first Tuesday of each month at 5:00 pm.The person to contact for additional information regarding the Cancer Support Group is Chaplain David Anderson at 906-776-5538.
