Dickinson County Healthcare System Announces Availability of “Patient Portal”
Dickinson County Healthcare System announced today that it will expand access to Dickinson owned clinics and employed physicians by way of a “Patient Portal” or internet connection directly to the patient’s provider. Known as RelayMyHealth, the recently enhanced on-line communication tool expands access to patient health information via a secure internet connection that was first made available last year. This planned expansion is slated for August 20 and will provide messaging capabilities with the patients’ providers to better access needed clinic services. There is no charge to the patient for using the patient portal service.
Since August of 2014, the patient portal through Relay Health has been available to patients so they could access, at their convenience, various aspects of their medical record and health information. In the first phase, patients were able to access information on record about their allergies, medications, lab and radiology test results, and their vitals (blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, etc.). By providing their email address at the time of registration for hospital tests and visits for outpatient services, patients would receive an email invitation from Relay Health at which time they could establish an account that allowed them to access their health information.
“As is true with many projects, the devil is in the details,” commented Deanna Christesen, Patient Administration Manager and project leader for the first phase. “One of the biggest hurdles was helping patients understand that they could not set up their account until they received the email invitation to do so from Relay Health. If they waited until they received notification, the process went much smoother.”
One year later, the same patient portal that allowed access to hospital based information will now be expanded to allow communication with the patients’ physicians at Dickinson owned clinics. Patients will provide their email address at the time of their appointment, receive an invitation from Relay Health via email, and be able to set up their account to begin on-line communication with the Clinic. Patients will be able to request an appointment, request a prescription renewal, or send a message to their provider’s office as well as access any test results or view an office visit summary.
This is all one Portal. Phase Two simply has more capabilities. If the patient already signed up for access through the Portal in Phase One, there is no need to set up a second account. Their account now allows them greater access to additional clinic based information as well as communication with their provider’s office, which had not been available in Phase One.
“This is all part of an initiative to be more accessible to our patients,” explained Peggy Freeman, Chief Physician Services Officer. “We all live in a 24/7 society and function within different schedules. We can only keep staff at the clinics and available to answer phones so many hours of the day, but on-line access via a secure portal helps patients find or request information any time of the day or night. It is all about being more responsive to patient needs.”

You will be able to access information from your visit, procedures, pathology reports, lab and radiology results, vitals, allergies, and more—all in one place!
