IRON MOUNTAIN - Dickinson County Healthcare is expanding care for babies, toddlers and kids with the addition of Michael Carpenter, M.D. to the pediatric care team.
Dr. Carpenter is board certified by the American Academy of Pediatricians and brings experience including serving Air Force families around the world, at the U.S.Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and at Mountain View Medical Group in Mountain View, Colorado.
A native of Colorado Springs., Dr. Carpenter is looking forward to enjoying the experience of the Upper Peninsula and getting away from the urban environment. Dr. Carpenter is coming to Iron Mountain with his wife Linda and has five children aged 13 to 22.
“My family loves the outdoors and what the U.P. has to offer. I enjoy fishing, hunting and camping,” he said. “I like quiet places where I can think and communities with old time values where people look out for each other. This area seems to offer all of those things. I have found a great place to practice medicine in Dickinson County Healthcare. I look forward to helping us remain the healthcare provider of choice for our area.”
Dr. Carpenter graduated from the University of Utah, and has been serving patients at the Mountain View Medical Group. Prior to that, he served in the United States Air Force for eight years as a general pediatrician with overseas tours in Turkey and England, and at the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs.
Serving as an education resource for children and parents is what Dr. Carpenter likes most about being a health care provider.
“I come from a long line of teachers and one of my biggest goals is teaching families about their own bodies and illnesses,” he said. “Being sick is often a mysterious and frightening thing. Helping to teach why things are happening and providing solutions to fix it can give parents and kids power over their illness. That’s a great feeling.”
Appointments with Dr. Carpenter and the DCH pediatric team are available with no referral necessary.
